The From Scratch TV Show is a limited series on Netflix. All 8 episodes were released on October 21, 2022 and are available to stream on Netflix. This love story is one that takes you on a journey through Italy and just like the food of that country, this show is food for the soul.
The From Scratch Story
This weekend a new limited series dropped on Netflix. It was the perfect weekend binge for me. This show tells the story of Amy (Zoe Saldana), who heads to Italy for a 6 week art program. It's a trip where she can embrace her passion for art, put-off the pending start of law school, and explore the beauty of another country.
During her time in Italy, Amy finds love and it's that love that takes us through the 8 episodes of the miniseries. We follow Amy and her love Lino (Eugenio Mastrandrea) as they navigate life beyond Italy. Can their love endure a long distance relationship and then a relocation to the United States?
This series is more than a love story. The From Scratch TV show is a story of family. About celebrating the good times together and leaning on each other through the tough times. It is a beautiful story and one that I highly recommend. If you don't want any spoilers, then stop right here and head to Netflix to stream it now. You won't be disappointed.
My From Scratch Review
To me the ultimate mark of a good show, series, or movie is how much it moves you. Does it bring you to tears through laughter, heartbreak, or both? The From Scratch TV show is definitely a show that will move you to tears. Keep the box of Kleenex close by as you will experience a full range of emotions, from sheer joy to utter heartbreak. There are very few shows that offer the depth of emotions that From Scratch does.
The From Scratch TV show is based on the book by Tembi Locke. The full name of the book is From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily, and Finding Home. This title really sums it up perfectly as the story is more than just a love story. It's about family. A family that loves, argues, disagrees, but ultimately is always there for each other. A blended family who shows that a family is born of love and not biology. That forgiveness heals wounds, and that love unites more than just 2 people.
From Scratch Cast
The cast for the this series is amazing. The performances from Zoe Saldana and Eugenio Mastrandrea are truly magic. It's not just the love and tenderness between their characters, but the range they both bring to their individual performances too. Each character faces tough decisions along the way and the raw emotions and openness from Zoe specifically really makes this series the gem that it is. It is rare to experience a show, or a movie, where the characters are so vulnerable. But it's a vulnerability that reflects strength, and knowing that for love to triumph over tragedy we have to push through the pain.
While Zoe and Eugenio are fantastic in the lead roles, there is a complete cast of amazing actors and actresses that make the From Scratch TV show memorable. Kellita Smith plays Amy's mother, Danielle Deadwyler is her sister Zora, and Keith David is her father Hershel. Their performances all add to the beauty of this family drama.
From Scratch TV Show Recap
It's rare to find a miniseries that tugs at your heartstrings the way the From Scratch TV Show does. This special show hits the trifecta. It is beautifully written, has an array of talented actors, and the cinematography is breathtaking. We're taken on a journey through Italy and along the way we laugh, we cheer, we cry, and we cry some more. But all while experiencing the greatest emotion of all…love.
