Great American Family finally has a hit with their Catering Christmas movie. After a rocky start to the network's Christmas movie lineup, they finally aired a movie worth watching. But not just worth watching, it is one that hits the sweet spot.
Catering Christmas Movie Story
In the Catering Christmas movie, Molly (Merritt Patterson) is an up-and-coming caterer trying to get her business off the ground. It's the holiday season, and all the big catering gigs keep going to her competition. But when the Harrison Foundation is on the search for a caterer only 8 days before its annual Christmas gala, Molly gets another shot.
The Harrison Foundation is run by Jean Harrison (Rosemary Dunsmore). She is known around town as a perfectionist who is very difficult to work for. But Molly is thrilled to have an opportunity to cook for her and a chance to cater the gala.
Jean is at a point in her life where she'd like to retire from the Foundation, so she puts her nephew Carson (Daniel Lissing) in charge of overseeing the catering. It's Jean's way of getting him involved hoping he'll want to take over. But, since Carson pushed to give the catering job to Molly, it is also her way of having the two spend time together.
Since Carson doesn't have experience catering significant events, he needs guidance on what they should serve. He lets Molly come up with the recommendations, and they work together to create the perfect menu. Working alongside each other, the two get to know each other. Carson has been traveling the world as a photographer and isn't familiar with what the Foundation does.
Molly takes Carson on a tour of the Community Center, where Carson gets to see the Foundation's work in action. He sees all of the kids who receive free after-school care and programming from the Harrison Foundation's generous support.
Molly opens Carson's eyes and attitude about how important the Foundation is. And the impact that it has on the community. It makes Carson reconsider his plans and whether he wants to travel and live out of a suitcase for the rest of his life. Of course, that's also because he's attracted to Molly, and he has a reason to stay in one place for the first time.
The Cast of The Catering Christmas Movie
Hallmark fans will rejoice with the casting of Merritt Patterson and Daniel Lissing in the Catering Christmas movie. The performances from these two are always top-notch, and they have such a lovely presence. It was the perfect pairing for this movie. They have a natural chemistry and ease between them, and this natural ease makes you root for them and want the two to end up together.
My Catering Christmas Movie Review
If you've read any of my other reviews, you know that I have been particularly hard on Great American Family. Their 2021 Christmas movies were terrible, and the first one of the 2022 season was just as bad. I was beginning to lose hope when along came the Catering Christmas movie.
Catering Christmas has everything I want in a Christmas movie. It has a great cast, with leading roles you can see together. Plus, all of the Christmas festivities and activities that make the season special. I also liked the theme of helping others. The Foundation is all about helping the community and being there to support people. Any story that promotes being helpful and kind is my kind of story.
Catering Christmas Movie Recap
It may have taken them longer than I hoped, but the Great American Family channel finally has a Christmas movie to celebrate. And I hope that the Catering Christmas movie isn't the last. Hopefully, this is the start of a successful Christmas lineup for the channel. The Catering Christmas movie is one to add to your viewing list this holiday. You will be happy spending an evening with Daniel and Merritt.
