Why did Candace leave Hallmark

Bill Abbott, former CEO of Hallmark, left the company to become the Chief Executive of Great American Media. Abbott's departure opened the door for many Hallmark stars, like Candace and Danica McKellar, to follow him to Great American Family. Bill Abbott left Hallmark after an ad showing same-sex couples was pulled from the network.

Early on Hallmark was criticized for being too conservative and for not having enough diversity in its programming. It only produced movies that included heterosexual characters and traditional marriage story lines.

In recent years the network has expanded its programming to include more diverse and inclusive stories. But Candace is quoted in the Wall Street Journal as saying that Hallmark had become a completely different network compared to when she started.

Candace and Great American Family

In addition to the Great American Family channel being more in line with Candace's desire for faith-based content, the move also expands her role at the network. Bure is the Chief Creative Officer and as such is able to create faith programming that the whole family can enjoy. She has stated that she'd like to bring more Christianity into Christmas movies.

For many Hallmark viewers, it's still shocking that Candace is no longer part of the network. She was after all, the self-proclaimed Queen of Christmas. However, Lacey Chabert took over and seems to be stepping into the role of the face of Christmas at the Hallmark channel.

In November 2022, her new Christmas movie premiered on Great American Family. A Christmas Present was her first holiday movie for the Great American Family network, but it wasn't her only Christmas film during the holidays.
