There are so many Christmas movies each year and this year the Roku Channel gives us How to Fall in Love by the Holidays. Starring Teri Hatcher and Dan Payne, can the Roku channel compete with all of the movies that the Hallmark Channel, Lifetime, and Great American Family produce each year? Here's a look at how this movie stacks up.
The Story and Cast
Teri Hatcher plays Nora, a writer and CEO, who is at risk of losing the company she started. Her Board of Directors threatens to remove her as CEO if she can't increase readership in the younger demographics.
To engage the 18-39 age group, the Board thinks that Nora needs to write a series about How to Fall in Love by the Holidays. And not just a story, they want her to actually put her heart into it and try to fall in love.
Dan Payne plays Jack, the charming photography assigned to cover the assignment. He watches Nora as she goes through the motions, without really investing herself into the process. With Jack's help, Nora begins to realize that she does need to push herself and open up to others.
How to Fall in Love by the Holidays Review
This movie was a complete surprise to me. I usually watch the Hallmark Channel, Lifetime, and Great American Family for most of my Christmas movie viewing. But since I use Roku as my streaming device, I saw the ad for this movie. I watched it on impulse when I saw that Teri Hatcher was in it.
This movie may not win any awards, but that doesn't make it any less enjoyable. It has a great cast, especially with Teri and Dan. The two had great chemistry together. Just a natural ease where you could see them as friends first, and then something more.
How to Fall in Love by the Holidays is also beautiful to look at with pretty decorations, and Christmas details throughout. Something that will definitely get you into the Christmas spirit, so if you use Roku to stream your services, check out their latest Christmas movie. It's an enjoyable Christmas movie that I would watch again.
